Artavia Advertising have been employed to create the new brand identity for the town as part of a five year BID business plan in which marketing plays a key role both locally, regionally and nationally. 

The brief from the BID Board was to create a vibrant and contemporary brand image for Barnstaple that defines it as a town of significant importance in the region and a destination of choice for both visitors and businesses.  Within the remit, the brand also needed to create a feeling of civic pride and build upon Barnstaple’s historical importance within the UK. 

Artavia were chosen after being short listed from other local marketing companies, and tasked with developing an atmosphere and personality that makes  Barnstaple  ‘a must’ visit for both consumers and businesses alike. The aim is to increase footfall within the town by 5% within 5 years and to raise the profile of Barnstaple and give it an identity and personality that will take it forward in these challenging times for high street traders.

The key to the rebrand is to bring the community together to take pride and act as brand ambassadors, promoting Barnstaple as “a must’ for shopping, eating out, fresh produce and friendly local services to name but a few.

“Artavia have done a brilliant job of developing the brief we gave them and I am confident that the plans they have will result in giving Barnstaple a higher profile and so bring more visitors to the town. We need local businesses to engage and support the new branding, and the ideas we have for promotional activities, leading to more customers for all. This is a prime example of where the combined value of the levy funding can be effectively utilised,” said Dane Stanley, Chairman of BIDBarnstaple.

The new branding will be unveiled in time for the Christmas lights switch on Sunday 20th November.
